Out in Wyoming, Royal Abbot (Josh Brolin) runs a ranch with his wife Celia (Lili Taylor) and two sons, Perry (Tom Pelphrey) and Rhett (Lewis Pullman). It’s good, honest work tending to their herd of cattle, and the ranch has been in the family for generations. The wealthy Tillersons live on the other side of the Abbots, and they reveal that the west part of the Abbot Ranch belongs to them. Royal won’t budge, however, because of the legacy his land holds and the large, mysterious crater that appeared. The Tillersons also want to know where their brother, Trevor (Matt Lauria), is—last seen fighting Royal’s sons in a drunken brawl and missing ever since. There’s also a young woman named Autumn (Imogen Poots) who asks to camp on the Abbot ranch, and she holds many secrets. Where does the crater go? Why is Royal’s past so mysterious, and what does the Tillersons obsession with Royals’ west pasture mean?
This neo-western sci-fi mystery seamlessly blends genres and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the next surprise. Created by Brian Watkins, the series stars Brolin, Taylor and Canadians Tamara Podemski as the town’s shrewd Deputy Sheriff Joy and Noah Reid as the spontaneously singing Billy Tillerson. Fans of Twin Peaks will appreciate the blending of music, mystery, and cryptic characters as the Abbots and the Tillersons’ feud continues in the strange world of Outer Range.
