Two ships collide in a harbour, sending a sailor flying into the calm sky. He soars high away from the mayhem, surrounded by clouds, the night sky, and memories of his past. Seven-minute animated short The Flying Sailor follows an existential crisis up above through the eyes of Calgary-based directors Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby. Based on the events of the Halifax Explosion, the short was nominated for an Academy Award in 2023 — the third Oscar nomination for the directorial duo.
