Ultimate Chicken Horse (2016)

Not all games need an intricate storyline, complex mechanics or deep characters as long as they’re fun. This is exactly what Ultimate Chicken Horse from Montreal’s Clever Endeavour Games is all about. It’s fun, funny, easy to handle, with a certain competitiveness that will even have the sorest player laugh out loud.

The goal is fairly easy to grasp: be the first to cross the finish line on a given map. However, each character can place a trap to slow down others like a seesaw, an arrow or a moving platform. Not only do those obstacles make for some treacherous paths but, as they are user generated content, it’s unpredictable and hilarious. Once everyone places their deadly element on the field, the race can start. You can go forward, backward and jump. The bravest can also try the Wall Jump, they might have the skills to pull it off but many have tried and failed. Most of the time, the race has no winners. All the more reasons to try again!
